Inspired by and dedicated to the late, great William 'Stuart' Adamson.
This is a bit long-winded but please read it.
I've always been a huge fan of Stuart Adamson's guitar playing and make no apologies here for recording a piece very much in his style. I hope I have captured the essence and 'Scottishness' of his playing style but listeners will be the judge of that.
It's possible fans with a more in-depth knowledge of Stuart's work will catch glimpses of some of his songs in there and if I have copied or plagiarised any bits I apologise. There is definitely a hint of 'Working For The Yankee Dollar' in there. But please forgive me, I wished only to celebrate his life and music, no deliberate 'copying' involved.
I first saw Stuart playing live with The Skids at Alloa Town Hall, early on in their career (1978?) and whilst the other 49 people in the crowd were content to spend their time throwing cans of beer at Richard Jobson, I stood transfixed watching Stuart belting out 'Of One Skin' on his SG2000. That image has never left me. I was never fortunate enough to meet Stuart, though I went and saw The Skids a few more times. In 2001 I went to the memorial gig at Barrowlands, mainly to hear Bill Nelson's tribute 'For Stuart' and I decided that night I'd like to do a tribute of my own. It has taken me four years to develop my guitar playing skills to a level where I felt I could do him something approaching justice. So this is it, my tribute to Stuart Adamson, a truly wonderful and sorely missed guitarist.
It's called 'Kingdom Gone' because Stuart was from The Kingdom of Fife.
