This song was written the week after Warren Zevon & Johnny Cash died. A watermark for me

The verse about Warren Zevon came to me on the morning that I heard the news that Johnny Cash had died. I woke to the news of Johnny's passing and wrote that verse immediately. The music came a coupel of days later after it all sank in.
2nd Week Of September(Warren & John) 9-13-03
C 2003 by Michael Hickman BMI
What a week, a week it was
The second one of September
The Exciteable Boy and the Man In Black
Left us here to pause and remember
Monday morning when I heard the news
Warren Zevon had passed and gone
I felt a shiver in recent weeks
Every time I heard his songs
The doctors gave him but a couple of months
So it shouldn’t come as a shock
A year later, now he’s slipped away
He found true love and tenderness on the block
I woke Friday morning to the radio
And the overnight DJ
In an aching voice, he spoke the words
Johnny Cash had passed away
I heard the lump down in his throat
As he gave us all the news
Things fell silent... then he played
Get rhythm, when you get the blues
What a week, a week it was
That second one of September
The Exciteable Boy and the Man In Black
Left us to pause... and remember
Not that this was unexpected
Still it all comes round too soon
But the lights up there are shining so much brighter
While our light down here seems to dim
It seems so dim
Now they’re gone away, now they’re gone away
Now they’re gone away, now they’re gone away
