Memories of Pappy's farm in the Mtns of E. Ky/ M. Bobbitt on all instruments.
Daddy’s Hometown
We got up before the sun, loaded the Edsel wagon
Nine kids half asleep we headed out the drive
It was 10 hrs of riding but well worth the waitin’
There was nothing like the water-color blue in the Harlan County sky
Daddy said sit back and soak up the scenery
Watch those hills to turn to Appalachians high
Rollin southbound on the Dixie, a long and winding by-way
We left behind the tinted air for a little while
Cawood, Kentucky That’s where Daddy was born
Cawood, Kentucky Daddy’s Hometown
What do you suppose we could do down in them mountains
Wander through the hollar, visit with Uncle Jim
Maybe go on down to ole Crummies Creek
Daddy said “You boys better not fall in”
Catchin’ crawdad and minners we got soaked to the skin
(Bridge)
40 yrs of yesterdays the town has grayed and weathered
It’s time to gather on the mountain side
Under the tallest pine next to Mama and Pappy
He’ll lie beneath the water-color blue in the Harlan County sky
Cawood, Kentucky That’s where Daddy was born
