Story behind the song
I'd been thinking of a fugue subject and treatment for weeks, now, and thought that a suitable Prelude for it could evoke a feeling of mystery and grandeur, and set up the fugue nicely. Ruach Adonai roughly means "Breath of God in Hebrew.
