Tha Pastor Reach Yeah aka the hip hop George Whitefield. I'm not a Christian musician, I'm just a Christian who makes music to the glory of God.
Story behind the song
I wrote the verse for a collaboration that never happened. Time passed and I came back across this verse which I still liked, so I looked for a beat to set it to, and it just happened to be this one!
Lyrics
Through stooped trees there's a cool breeze, a wind of change
A simple name, the one time I clinged to fame
Look, I took departure, struck by the archer
Bleeding with greed that I was struggling after
Driven leagues back, my ship lay splintered and split
Serene seas seemed succumb, though I'd think not amiss
I would ride for a while on the prayers of the church
In my mind I would cry "I wasn't prepared for this earth!"
Heard by the grace of the One I feared to face
My ancestors didn't die, they were just clearing space
So the child in their hearts could reform as a man
Seeking for the solace in the Lord of the land
Til I, met with music, the sceptre, the truth with
The blessed, the abuser, all left in confusion
For peace I'd behold, found in reading the scroll
But this passage proved to be long, weakened and cold
Seeking to be bold amongst the Kingswood Mines
Buried deep under the dirt of the sinew and grime
Drinking the wine, hypocrisy inebriated the wasted court
I was thought to be faceless and taut when in truth I was nought
Just used for the cause and used to applause
Each cut was uncovered, blood soothing the sores
Come then my neighbour to sit round the table and eat
Don't snatch, just grasp what's reach
What's a pilgrim to do, in my heart and my mind?
Whilst living in Truth, I would start to decline
Seeing flickers from the devils that we're sharpening their knifes
And laughed as my pastor asked if I was fine!
