My best friend Tom told me about a conversation he had with his oldest daughter. She's getting up there. I was so proud of how he dealt with her, open and honest, I wrote this song the same night.
Lyrics
Not Far Removed
When his daughter spoke candidly
Opening her soul about what she'd heard and seen
She's tryin' to fit in with her new found crowd
Time to sit her down and say...
-CHORUS-
I'm not so far removed, I can relate to
The things that worry you
I'm proud you see fit comin’ to me
You'll be alright far as I can see
We're headed in the right direction
Whatever it takes, give you love and affection
But, most of all be protector
Of daddies lil' girl
He told her 'bout his life’s experience
A half an hour later mama's checkin' in
I got this one, he said with a nod
As she peeked 'round the corner, hopin’ to god
he wasn't over his head...
In the hallway she listened to what he said
-CHORUS-
-BRIDGE-
He told her 'bout her choices
And the consequences that follow
Of friends still around
And the ones who'll never see another tomorrow
He told her when he first held her
He had just begun to dream
Said, Mom and I weren't in our teens
Just old enough to understand what it means
-CHORUS-
Daddies Lil’ Girl!!!
