Selfunited started out with a drummer named Jeff babcock. He couldn't find a band, so he named himself as his own band,,called Self. That was before the one hit wonder band Self came on the radio. In 95, Tom joins self. They played around northern ny doing 2 man shows.Way before the 2 man band thing was popular. Jeff has since moved away..just left town with no notice.. He does that every few years..i'm hoping he comes back soon. Tom joins Hevansent in 95' and does extensive touring with them. they break up and reunite in Grand Rapids MI. in 98' That lasted a year. Tom moves back to ny and forms Shanghigh Diesel with Dave Careaga and Joel Pilon. The song "Lazy" is recorded at Tom and Dave's apartment and gets local radio play...Joel lived next door and would come over and record. Diesel breaks up after Dave decides to move away and play heavier music. Limp Biscut had just hit the scene and Tom didn't care much for the rap/metal sound. Tom has since recorded songs in that vein with Darren "sneaks" Blanchard with the song "Girl". Moving on..Tom has had a longtime association with Efrem Wilder and Abel Garcia in NYC. They recently have had talks about doing some more shows together. You can hear some of Efrem and Abel at efremwilder.com At present time tom is working on new material for his next disk. One of Tom's projects is called The Viking Kings. They are alot like self in some ways.very raw..intense..and improvised to a point.Check back and see where the ongoing saga of selfunited goes next!
