song #8 for February Album Writing Month(FAWM) This one's an old timey/irish claw hammer banjo/mandolin/guitar song about a tree in alaska that was alway full of ravens...check out lyrics page to see a pic of the tree
So there was always a conspiracy of Ravens in this tree, only in the winter time. This is the actual picture of the tree (anchorage, alaska). this song is about the time my wife and i were first getting to know each other. one thing i mention is how you really can't leave alaska (move) in the winter, if you've got a bunch of stuff to move with you....so you wait for the thaw..(although one time we left in february and had to drive across the surface of the moon to get to washington...)
THE RAVEN TREE…
Red winter sky splintered eye for beauty
springs gonna thaw the bay
then my love, we'll sail away
meanwhile… make the most… of January
give me your hand, strollin’ down to the raven tree
THE RAVEN'S THEY ALL CONGREGATE
AT THE CORNER OF TWELTH AND H
YOU & I JUST LET THEM BE
PROMENADE TO THE RAVEN TREE
red winter sky splintered eye for beauty
it's a long haul we belly crawled through February
with frozen toes, and runny noses, there's hope i can see
give me your hand, strollin’ down to the raven tree
CH
red winter eyes crystal sky on it's knees
30 below today, we're going walkn' anyway
pines, moose and raven the only life the eye can see
give me your hand, strollin’ down to the raven tree
CH
blue midnight sky shining sun set us free
where the giant cabbage grows all night, never thirsting for the light
golden hue-ed mountains, amber orange on the eve
of our final promenade down to the raven tree
CH
Red winter sky splintered eye for beauty
springs gonna thaw the bay
then my love, we'll sail away
meanwhile… make the most… of January
give me your hand, stroll on down to the raven tree
