Story behind the song
The inspiration for the lyrics for this track was derived from two things. The first being that ken sent me over an amazing piece of music that i knew right away i could put something to it. As it turned out, my original idea for the verses was completely pants and I didn't even send back to ken, but the chorus just jumped out at me from the first play. Fortunately I kept playing it and eventually tuned in to another verse..which is the one you hear today. Secondly from an inspiration point of view, writing this set of lyrics was pure and simple. My daughter (Jennifer) is three years old and at the moment she is going through a tough time with bedtime terrors. She believes that there is a monster in her cupboard and under her bed....where we live we have been having some bad weather lately and the noise of the wind whistling at her window has been completely freaking her out. No matter what I tell her there seems to be no consoling her. You'd think she'd believe her old dad when I say there's no such thing as monsters, but she is three and her "imagination is running wild". Apart from a fathers perspective I can relate to her fears on a personal level as well as I can remember as a child being scared of the dark and thinking there was a monster under my bed....haha...no wait a minute...it wasnt funny.lol When ken was finished working his magic on the final mix of the track, he asked if we could use Jennifers voice on the intro...which was great that she is actually appearing on the song I wrote about her. The good twist is this...the song is about the ghosts & monsters in her head. and the male voice on the intro is that of Donald Pleasance who for those of you who may not know is a very famous actor who passed away a few years ago....so its as if Jennifer is talking to a dead guy....which in my mind just works so well with the lyrical content and meaning of this song.....jim The song started life as the chorus music which I developed from a drum beat and bass line. Once the basic idea was ther, Jim worked his magic and the vocals blew me off my chair! lol. The rest of the song was easy. I tried to make the verses as interesting as possible with different lead guitar and feel that it works quite well. The outro of the song is Jim's last vocal line with the waveform reversed to compliment the songs theme. Shades of the film Poltergeist - but don't tell Jennifer! lol... Ken.
