Story behind the song
An essay put to music. I had an essay assignment to use the words "standing in the rain" somewhere in the essay. I came up with the story of an old man in a park.
Lyrics
The old man was lying on the park bench, it was a cold and windy day. The name of the old man was not know and where he came from no one could say. Seemed he'd always been in the park, nearly all his life. He must of come from some where. But there was no one who cared. Oh, just walk on by. It's not your life. You've gotta go there's no time. Oh, just walk on by. The cold wind was becoming, more than he could stand. He knew he must find some shelter, from the wind and now the rain. He knew of a covered door way, about a block and a half a-way. Upon his feeble legs to the shelter, he set out on his way. Oh, just walk on by. It's not your life. You've gotta go there's no time. Oh, just walk on by. And now as the night came, there seemed a ray of hope. The old man he saw some car lights, so he waved his arms for their help. The car just raced past him, they splashed a puddle in his face. The driver of the car just laughed, and left him standing there in the rain. Oh, just walk on by. It's not your life. You've gotta go there's no time. Oh, just walk on by. You've gotta go there's no time. Oh, just walk on by.
