A song about wanting to tell someone how you feel but never getting the courage to do so.
I guess it's one of those songs that had been kinda kicking around for a while and never really came together until I read something about George Harrison saying "we always thought E and G#m [which happen to be the first two chords in the song] sounded good together" and after a bit of experimentation and tweaking of arrangements and finalizing an ending chord sequence the song "If I Could Be The One" evolved into the folk rock classic-in-the-making it is today. I'm especially proud of the Beatley major 7th ending :-)
Musicians:
Darcy Windover: guitar solo
Chris Gapski: counterpoint guitar
Brent Hooton: bass, harmony vocals
Jeff Kahl: lead vocals, drums
Myke Mazzei: electric and acoustic rhythm guitars, harmony vocals
Verse One:
Stepped off the evening train
Into the warmth of your embrace
Knew why you'd come again
By the look upon your face
You said you had known my name
Through a mutual friend of ours
I thought my fortune and fame had been written in the stars
Chorus:
If I could be the one
To tell you how I feel
Life could be brand new
Yeah life could be so real
Verse Two:
Watching the words slip by
Pondering how to break the news
Dreaming of that day
That I could spend my time with you
Who knew that evening train
Would station me in your mind
If I could only tell you what was on my mind
Repeat Chorus
Solo
Coda:
Stepped off the evening train into the warmth of your embrace, of your embrace
