Dance/Tango/Rock Hybrid
A good friend and I were talking one night. It was late, and for some reason, he decided to confide in me some things about himself that I didn’t know. He seemed to be waiting for me to freak or do the “How could you!” thing. I did neither. I just affirmed my love for him and lack of being in any position to judge. This had not been the standard reaction from others in his life. This song sprung to life – an expression of the fears of being real before people and the desire in each of us to be loved truly “without condition”.

I hear you say that
Your love is unconditional
That’s easy to say when
The parlor is looking pristine
But what if you lift up
The carpets to find some surprises
Or discover that not every
Corner is quite what it seems
And if my closet opens
Will you back away
If the walls have secrets
Underneath this paint
And if the ghosts come haunting
Will you be afraid
I guess what I’m trying to say
Is would you
CHORUS
Dance
With my skeletons
Dressed
In the best
Of my dirty laundry
Dance
With my skeletons
If I went to
The cellar
In me
Would you still want to
Dance
So sweet and sincere, you
Insist that you’re here for the long haul
And I half-believe
The conviction I see in your eyes
But there’s so much more
To this excess baggage than dinner wear
And there’s so much less
To impress you than you realize
If I unlock the door
That I have sealed up tight
If the passage takes you
To the darker side
Where I keep the bones
I’ve never left behind
I wonder, would you change your mind
Or would you
CHORUS
Pretty as a picture
Just like a VanGogh
But if it tears
Are you gonna wanna tango
Dance
Gonna wanna tango
Dance
Gonna wanna tango
CHORUS
