The last elephant in Knysna Forest
Doesn't know we call her Oupoot
Doesn't know people care about her
What she knows is the forest
What she has are memories
The best are of her mother
Caressing her with her trunk
And making soft rumbling sounds
Oupoot is old now
But she won't forget
Tucked inside, safe and secure
The memories endure
My Christmas trip from long ago
To grandma and grandpa's house
I was five, people cared about me
We arrived late at night
I was carried straight to bed
By the bed there was a radio
Mom, can I turn it on?
She said yes, just keep it low
Now I've grown older
But I won't forget
Tucked inside, safe and secure
The memories endure
The memories endure
