Solo in ACT II of the musical "TREES!"
Sung by M. LeMolchaire, the Parisian official charged with mulching the browning holiday trees lining a Paris boulevard. The machine strikes fear in the hearts of the hero and heroine, Jumping Jacques and Dancing Denise - trees still green.
My mission is to keep the streets pristine
When bad trees cease to be evergreen
Then I am hired to intervene
To keep Paris clean with my mulching machine
See the fading trees in this holiday-tree line
All must be converted to meet a deadline
Leaves, needles, cones, bark and trunk I combine
To mulch for gardens I will consign
The city of lights must practice hygiene,
Just like the chefs in some famous cuisine
The solution is simple and really routine
Keep Paris clean with my mulching machine
My mission is to keep the streets pristine
When bad trees cease to be evergreen
Then I am hired to intervene
To keep Paris green with my mulching machine
I must intervene
To keep the streets pristine
I keep Paris green with my mulching machine
