A song with quite a few layers of vocals. A simple dreamy relaxing tune. This has been a favourite of mine ever since I first heard it on my elder brother's Beach Boys 20/20 album (it was of course a vinyl LP)
I've been meaning to have a go at this lovely song for a long time. I enjoyed layering all the vocals. I'm no match for The Beach Boys but I enjoyed singing it all the same.
Just for added interest and to give it an 'out-doors' feel, I've added some lawn-mower and birdsong effects.
Close your eyes, sit back and drift away.
I Went To Sleep (Brian Wilson) The Beach Boys [1969]
I took a walk and sat down in a park
The gardener walked out and the sprinklers went on
They watered the lawn and I went to sleep.
Ten-thirty I turned my radio on
Some group was playing a musical song
It wasn't too long and I went to sleep.
A cat at the park on a nice summer's day
High up above me the trees gently sway
A bird flew away and I went to sleep.
(musical interlude)
... and I went to sleep ... and I went to sleep
it's so peaceful.
(very quietly, in the distance)
I took a walk and sat down in a park
The gardener walked out and the sprinklers went on
They watered the lawn and I went to sleep.
