Story behind the song
Wrote song at one sitting. I did the original acoustic and organ and Dave overlaid the Lead and 12 string on the chorus. Song is really about being a different person once you put your faith in Christ. The Gospel changes you not from the outside in but the inside out.
Lyrics
Let’s not pretend. On my own I was doomed I didn’t have a chance of hitting God’s target at all My life was just an absolute mess An insurmountable unpayable debt The gospel It changes a man From the inside out (2 Cor 5:17, Rom 6:4, Rom 12:2) I shut and locked the door; stopped living for self Starting living for heaven Not hell My sins were washed spotless and clean God in the flesh; came to adopt me ** Break The old man is dead; I’m not who I used to be My focus now is on eternity The Spirit inside; Changes who I am My life aligned to the master’s plan He came; he died and on third day he rose Coming back in Glory; My life’s sacred hope I put my faith in the one that bled He’s where I rest my weary head
