Story behind the song
My good friend from way back, Simon, sent me this lyric and I was happy to come up with a tune for it. The idea behind the song and the lyrical content seemed to suggest a bluesy, jazzy vibe... so that's what i was going for.
Lyrics
Wise Crack Away Simon Edmonson/Adrian J Pratt 1/10/2022 There's no dead words on the stage, coming round the bend, With Oscar on board the 'bon mots' never end. He talks all day, and into the night, Wise cracks away, wise cracks away, wise cracks away. Then Mae joins in along at the next town, With an easy manner and a low cut evening gown. She's been looked over, but she's not over looked, Wise cracks away, wise cracks away, wise cracks away. Now some might think that they'd not get along, Be on the same stage, but not sing the same song, But their taste in men is just not the same, And repartee is part of their game (Instrumental) So back and forth, words between them flow, With wits so sharp the wise cracks seem to glow. They talk and talk and soon they find, Wise cracks away, Each glad to say, You're a very good friend of mine.
