A rocking song about transitioning from playing music for the heck of it to that of making music part of my overall worldview. Check out the 'Live' version elsewhere on this site.
Wrote this about the time I decided that if my faith meant anything to me, then it should come out through my music. The song uses a double negative 'Don't do nothing for your soul'... supposed to convey the sentiment that while music can be a good time, it shouldn't be the source of our joy, rather an expressin of the joy we have found in our life. Heavy! lol
Good Time Boogie
Adrian J Pratt 1976
(Intro)
I used to play in a rock and roll band
Dream of playing 'Boogie' all over the land
Some people said
I was a potential rock and roll star
They said I could go far. (But that...)
Good Time Boogie, Good Time Rock and Roll
Might make you feel like dancing, But it don't do nothing for your soul. (Oh no)
The songs I used to write they made no sense
Just like my life they were a big pretense
But I thought I knew about living
Like the back of my hand
But I was just building on the sand
('Cos that)
Good Time Boogie, Good Time Rock and Roll
Might make you feel like dancing, But it don't do nothing for your soul. (Oh no)
(Repeat intro)
Now let me tell you straight
The way of life is through the narrow gate
And if you find that a different path your pursuing
Better take a look at what you're doing ('Cos that)
Good Time Boogie, Good Time Rock and Roll,
Might make you feel like dancing, But it don't do nothing for your soul. (No that...)
Good Time Boogie, Good Time Rock and Roll
Might make you feel like dancing, But it don't do nothing for your soul.
So bye-bye boogie, and farewell rock and roll
Cos' now I dance for Jesus, and He saved my soul
He made my life so whole.
(Instrumental)
Good Time Boogie, Good Time Rock and Roll,
Might make you feel like dancing, But it don't do nothing for your soul.
Good Time Boogie, Good Time Rock and Roll
Might make you feel like dancing, But it don't do nothing,
It don't do nothing, It don't do nothing, for your soul.
