ALL THE THINGS HE TAUGHT ME

Somewhere in the dusty pages of my memory
There's a little boy just sitting on his grandaddy's knee
Gasoline and engine oil a smell I still recall
With calloused hands and a gentle touch he'd never let me fall
I could listen to him all day long
The tales he told he told so well
And in between he taught me right from wrong
He kept me off the road to hell
CHORUS
And all the things he taught me they stand me in good stead
The wise old things he told me I remember every word he said
I was eighteen when he left me the lord took him away
But all the things he taught me they're still with me to this day
The growing years were filled with dreams I'd never see come true
But he was always there for me in everything I'd do
A helping hand some good advice was never far away
And what I'd give to see him now if only for today
But now he lies beneath that marble stone
The one that I can't bear to see
Cause in my mind he's still so much alive
He still takes good care of me
CHORUS repeat
