Bytheway song Named for my Friend David Bytheway, who asked me to write it for a short video he made.
David asked me to write a song. he wanted it to be an exact time in mins/seconds. He gave me the things he wanted mentioned. And this is what he came up with. Sadly David passed away recently. The last song I wrote for him was " In The Forefront" again for a video which unfortunately wasn't completed. Since it was intended for the video, I didn't name this song at the time, but over the years I just called it the "Bytheway Song" when I performed it. See no reason to change that now!
THere is a wee seaport toun by the River Forth
Where You'll find Bonnie Lasses, Hard working men of worth
Working underground or in the stpur to earn a weeklwage
Everybody had a job in the industrial age
There were foondries, factories, Widyairds an' a'
I mind fine the distillery that stood in Corbieha'
We made iron grates and china plates tae hang on yer wa'
We even built the railway tae tak' it a' awa.
Noo there's nae pit heeds nor prop yairds nor bone works tae be seen
Jist the auld Kinneil Winding tower marks whaur they hae been.
The dock gates are hammered shut tae keep oot the tide
Nae boats and ships can get in tae tie up tae the side.
There were foondries, factories, Widyairds an' a'
I mind fine the distillery that stood in Corbieha'
We made iron grates and china plates tae hang on yer wa'
We even built the railway tae tak' it a' awa.
