Story behind the song
Written in 1988. Based on various incidents of black deaths in custody. Won Declan Affley Memorial Award at the National Folk Festival 1988.
Lyrics
Eddie Murray was drinking the night into day. The police picked him up and they took him away. Just 10 hours later he was dead in his cell. He took his own life - so police records tell. And he's gone, gone, gone.
