This is a romantic (not in the love sense) song about a battered woman.
Some time ago, I conceptualized in my mind a song that would talk about a woman. Not too long after, I came up with the words for a song that would talk about a suffering woman. I wanted a song that would tell a story and this song was it.
She walks down the street at night
With thin slippers on her feet
And the wind blowing against her pale face
She runs to the trees
And tries not to look down
She moves, she moves
Until her feet bleed and her legs start to ache
She falls to her knees
On the dirt-filled ground
And then she's crawling
She's crawling, she's crawling
And then tears fill her eyes
Chorus:
She's making her way down
The dust filled corridors and
She's pushing her feet to the ground
She tries to wipe the pain off her tear-stained face
And she bleeds
She bleeds.
Little girl lost
Young woman down
Old woman weary
All falling down
Rose-colored tints fading away
Blood trickling down the skin
Black skies replacing heavens of blue
Tumbling down
(Chorus)
Oh, she bleeds
She bleeds
And she bleeds
Hold fast now, my little girl
Young lady, get a hold of yourself
Your time will come
Your time will come
(Chorus)
