My first serious college crush transferred to a school halfway cross the country during Sophomore year. Frequent visits to the piano rehearsal rooms in the old music building resulted in the sentimental, post-adolescent first versions. This first-recorded version features age-appropriate, less sentimental lyrics.
Long Ago and Far Away
Had I but once touched your face, you might have needed me to stay
Had I only held my ground, I might not have gone astray
Miles later once more we met, but could not find a way
Now we’ve gone and we moved on.
At night from the river bridge it’s hard to gauge the flow
When we parted without tears I didn’t know you’d really go
The future on a different path it’s too late now to know
Since you’ve gone and we moved on.
I still miss you, but long since ceased to call it love
I might still want you, but you’re not the one I’m thinking of
Years go by and seasons change, winter follows fall
We missed that ship so long ago, so hard now to recall
Huge emotion way back then eventually so small
You’re long gone, and I’ve moved on
You’re long gone, and I’ve moved on
You’re long gone, and I’ve moved on
