This song is dedicate to all the songwriter that have gone on.
I wrote this when Harry Chapin was killed in an auto accident in the '80s. With all the songwriters that have passed this year I decided to record it and dedicate it to all of them.
Where have you gone?
Harry Chapin
1984
By Donnie Priest
The first time I heard you Harry
You were singing on my radio
The words you were saying touched my soul
Every one of your songs
Made we want to sing along
Harry, where have you gone
A poet and musician
You used your talents well
A story in every song you could tell
You could make a sad heart sing
A tear to the eye you could bring
Harry, where have you gone
(Chorus)
Where have you gone Harry?
You left us wanting more
Will we see you at heavens door?
Ive always heard the good die young
Well miss the songs you havent sung
I know I never met you
I feel you were my friend
A broken heart is so hard to mend
I can still remember the day
I heard youd gone away
Harry, where have you gone
(Chorus)
Where have you gone Harry?
You left us wanting more
Will we see you at heavens door?
Ive always heard the good die young
Well miss the songs you havent sung
(Bridge)
Music last forever
On earth every life must end
I know one day well see old friends
Well sing with Harry all day long
Maybe we will even write a song
(Chorus)
Where have you gone Harry?
You left us wanting more
Will we see you at heavens door?
Ive always heard the good die young
Well miss the songs you havent sung
Well miss the songs you havent sung
