Story behind the song
As a songwriting hobbyist, the desire to write new songs seems to have burned down quite a bit. I think that in one song or another I've pretty much gone completely through the contents of what I have to express. Currently I'm writing a single new song and letting the effort rise and fall with the mood to do it. Moreso these days I enjoy going back to old stuff and trying to improve on it. Usually the melodies and structure need work. "Just Another Errand" is one such. It is a story song depicting a mundane but emotional sequence of events that most people have experienced when a wanted relationship is clearly over. The song is written from the viewpoint of the "un-wantee" and describes their reluctance, resignation and quiet pain while watching the relationship take it's final breath. If anyone would like to suggest any improvements...it is a work in progress. Thanks. Martin
Lyrics
JUST ANOTHER ERRAND V1 (I) Looked out my window, saw you opening my gate Coming up my walk, like it's just another day (I) opened the door, you smile and then you say I came here for what's left, then I'll be on my way Just another errand, Just another day V2 I raised my head, stepped back from the door. Looked into the house..."well take whatever's yours" As you walked by me, I smelled the fragrance of your hair. Reminded me of nights laying close in our bed. Just another errand, Just another day. V3 I guess to break the silence you asked me how I've been. As if I'm some acquaintance who might have been a friend. The distance of your words dropped like dead leaves in fall. If I can't say I love you, I don't wanna talk at all. Just another errand, Just another day. CH Don't get me lying. Don't make me say that I'm just fine, that everything's alright. Don't get me Lying, Leave me quietly in pain, take your things and walk away V4 I lay back on the sofa and feign to watch tv. You call out from my front door..."I got everything I need." The door closes softly on this chapter in our lives. A love I would have cherished until the end of time. Just another errand, Just another day.

The Stray Dawgs

Martin, I started listening to the tune and was going to stop but the lyrics and melody drug me back in. This is a good song. If I were you I would keep on writing and producing. Even if it is a hobby (like mine), the world is better off when people try to create instead of just accepting what is already out there. Thanks, Lew Dawg Cloninger, MrHillbilly, The Stray Dawgs
