Story behind the song
A nasty break-up motivated me to write this song, and it was very cathartic! The song was voted #1 by industry and fans at Makeastar.com, and will be featured on a national compilation CD to be released in summer 2004.
Lyrics
JUDGMENT DAY And who can hear the scream, the stifled ringing in my ears. I have been encased and pinned by you, collector, gloating. But from this daze I wake, I find my shout, my shattered will. And my prison disappears, I have become alive again. CHORUS: Don't you lie, don't cry, don't plead. I have heard, I have seen, I am now your jury. Don't you try to appease me boy, you will reap your sins on judgment day. You strangled me in love, in poisoned fear, in jealousy. Dangled butterfly with pinioned wings; am I a pretty thing collected? Enticing pretty cage, perfumed with roses, promises. It's a valentine, your bait so sweet, it breathed for just one day. (CHORUS) Who can hear the scream of a trampled wing, who can hear the scream oh the stifled scream of a strangled thing, oh the stifled scream, who can hear the scream of a trampled wing, of a strangled thing. You tempted me with things, with sugared nothings, a saccharine kiss. So you caught me, pinned my wings with lies so I don't fly away. But came a golden day, the sun, the wind that healed my pain, when I rose up, spread my wings and crushed my cage to fly away. (CHORUS)
