When I was 19 I fell in love and never met a young Canadian folk singer. Even though we never met my post adolescent fantasy was profound. Last year out of the blue, she friended me on facebook and i was stunned. I wanted to tell her, I wanted to write a love song to her. She and I are in our 70's. Have full lives with little in common. It jolted me into realizing that I have very little life experience with most of my friends on FB. For the most part they reflect me and they are "my ego float parade". There's very little real connection. So this song began...
Love Facebook
Words and Music: Gerry Segal c 2014
Verse 1
People come, people go in this world its true
This song is more about me and less about you
We never met and yet
You just floated on my facebook wall.
Verse 2
Yes people come, people go on my facebook page
As a rule I keep my cool, it must be my age
All my friends hold a lens on my ego float parade
Chorus 1
I love Facebook
I love Facebook
On my Pod, on my Pad on my screen and my Iphone
I love Facebook
I love Facebook
I got a million friends and I'm still on my own
Bridge
Yesterday was throw back Thursday
I love your pretty picture of a pooch named pookie
When you were one
You share so much of your life with me
Truth is I don't know you
Makes me think I don't need to know anyone.
Bridge
I got my BFF and we LOL
at my sweet pic selfie that you knpw so well
I only text and drive when the traffic is light
I pay close attention to my smart phone
I keep my eye contact down when the kids are at home
I'm a face gawking geez and my fingers are cramped up tight
Chorus
I love Facebook (My fingers tend to linger)
I love Facebook (My digits are so rigid)
I got a million friends to invite
I love Facebook (My thumb is getting number)
I love Facebook
I can text all day and avoid the wife at night.
Outro
Repeat last chorus and fade.
