Been wanting to write this for a long while . . . finally got it together
It seems a long, long time ago
They first looked down upon us,
Tall and dark in scented carpet blue.
Together we would clamber high
A father and his sons
Just a hint of fear as daring grew.
A little slip, a rush of fear,
But you were there to hold me,
Shielding, caring, watching over me.
Ropes and knots and cries of “safe”
Now echo all around us;
Harder climbs, in gentle autumn breeze.
Refrain
Chalkdust floating, in the air,
Climbing tales that we would share.
Fading sunset, we drift away,
Sweetly aching from the day.
The view across the valley,
The steam train chugging through,
We stood and watched as they went by.
Two brothers helping raise the gates,
Together pulling hard,
Laughing as they ran across the line.
A million years ago they formed
And millions more to come
Forever taunting, timeless, rise.
Our lives are but a fleeting glimpse
In the shifting sands of time,
A moment shared beneath the endless skies.
