One of five tracks recorded January 17 & 18, 1998 at Bo Coon's Big Red Barn in Stagecoach, Texas.
The music recorded that weekend featured former Faultline drummer, Thomas Cross. Cross has the distinction of serving in that capacity for the least time of anyone before him. He is also privileged to be one of two drummers that were relieved of their duties by executive order.
Sometime shortly after these recordings were made, Cross accompanied the band to Austin to shop for a prospective studio to record a future endeavor.
It was over this course of this trip that ratbastard got a real good look at the man. It was during a scheduled appointment at either the highly respected (and costly) Pedernales Recording Studio... or Arlyn Studios (I forget which... we visited both) that a drunken Thomas managed to knock over a floor rack that housed a number of uptown Gibson heirloom instruments. He continued to make an ass out of himself everywhere we went... and by golly, ratbastard most certainly was no stranger to picking a scab to make it bleed more, but this was one of those times we were seriously trying to make a good impression.
Two songs would be written that detailed that weekend in not so loving reflection. The first, penned by Dodson in the backseat of the limo on the way back to Houston following the above mentioned calamities, is a woeful knee slapper entitled, "Jew Me Down". This track was not christened as a ratbastard track, however it was recorded and preserved as substantiation for what soon befell poor Thomas. "Please Shut Up" would be Jan's lament of the previous events that occurred in Austin. "Please Shut Up" was recorded on 13 June 1998, with the aid of legendary rock star/stick man Robert Lee Williams III (aka Bobby The Cock) behind the war scarred, four-piece Gretcsh that had been a staple of Studio M.B.R. and a veteran of Magnolia's The Animal House for some years before that.
THINK I'M JUST A JERK
(Words & Music by Thomas ‘Shengar’ Banta)
TAKE ANOTHER DRAG
BURN ANOTHER CIGERETTE
FILLS MY LUNGS WITH SMOKE
HELPS ME TO FORGET
I HATE TO GO TO WORK
THEY THINK I'M JUST A JERK
I'D RATHER BE AT HOME
I'D RATHER BE ALONE
TAKE ANOTHER PILL
PUT'S MY MIND AT EASE
MAKES ME REALISE
I'M THE ONLY ONE I PLEASE
TAKE ANOTHER HIT
WHEN I FEEL LIKE sh**
WANNA SLEEP ALL DAY
SO WON'T YOU GO AWAY
ALL UP IN A RAGE
LOCKED UP IN THIS CAGE
WANNA KILL SOMEONE
WOULD'NT THAT BE FUN
NOW I'M BACK TO EARTH
AND FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH
I'VE ONE MORE THING TO SAY
I'D LIKE TO FLY AWAY
I'D LIKE TO FLY AWAY
THINK I'LL FADE AWAY
I'D LIKE TO FLY AWAY
NEED MY FIX TODAY
