I have been wanting to write a record a Motown style song but I could never get a decent horn sound that didn't sound to fake. I recently got some horn audio samples that I can play through my keyboard. Vocals are by Jim Higgins from Ireland.
I started with a drum pattern and added bass and guitar then put the horns and some organ on top of that. I sent the music to Jim and he came up with the idea of writing the lyrics about people who think everything is a conspiracy either by the government or some group of elites. We e-mailed back and forth and got the words done and I talked him into singing it. I think the song captures that Motown sound of the 60's.
"SHAKE"
Lyrics by James Higgins & David Bride, Music by David Bride c 2013
Why must you tease me with all your theories?
Ain't no conspiracy, you must be crazy,
You say there's things that they're keeping from me
Secret society, I don't believe it
Shake rattle and roll
Rave rabid and bold
Shake, Shake
You peddle nonsense, dressed up as fact,
The money rolls in from all the saps,
Super fantastic, dumb ass fanatic,
I think it's tragic
Shake rattle and roll
Rave rabid and bold
Shake, Shake
You caught the zeitgeist, you spread the fear,
Then you make sure that the naive hear,
Play to their weakness blind them with jazz,
Got them believing a bunch of crap,
Shake rattle and roll
Rave rabid and bold
Shake, Rave
