As a Hip Hop enthusiast grew up listening to the boombap classics from ’90 ’96, Illsteez has been steadily crafting the art of beat-making thru the influences of Marley Marl, Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Large Professor, Diamond D, DJ Spinna, Lord Finesse, KMD, etc. His skills are much developed by his ears in Hip Hop productions, as he has no musical background nor he play any instruments.
In the end of 2000, with the birth of his newborn “MPC2000XL”, he had spent most of his time on his “newborn”. By doing this for the past 3 years, he had become nocturnal and suffering from “itchy-fingers syndrome”, a hand-decease with symptoms such as pad-pressin’, sample-tuning and crate-diggin’. At the same time, this also led to his discovery of 60’s-70’s Funk, Soul and Raregrooves. On the real, he is constantly on the move to evolve himself thru these different genres of music he has experienced. You might find him keepin’ his hands busy and dirty on crates of records in the used-records stores and flea market in the malls in your area.
To date, Illsteez’s production can be found in Too Phat’s 360 degree album, a track titled “6 mc’s” which featured some international emcees from Sweden, Australia, New York & Canada. He is also currently behind the board in upcoming projects with local crew Teh Tarik Crew, foreign emcees such as Vandal and others. Be on the look-out for some tru-skool bangers in the future baby!!
CAUTION: There’s gonna be lotsa head-noddin’/ neck-breakin’ experience involved!
