A Christian song about what we've been promised.
This song was written for my mother. She had been ill. The idea had been persistently in my thoughts after I had a dream about her one night. She never got to hear it. A week and a half after that dream I was summoned home and arrived barely in time to say goodbye at her bedside. My sister was wiping her forehead with a cool cloth, and I was holding Mom's hand when she passed peacefully beyond the veil. I played the song at her funeral. I hope she liked it.
I Will Fly
words and music by Patrick McGuire (November 12, 2012)
For Mom
We walk a steep and winding road;
Crosses to bear along the way.
And yet despite the heavy load,
We hear a loving savior say:
“Be not afraid. You are my child.
And I am strength that will not fail.”
And as we cross the final mile,
Then he will lift the clouds' grey veil.
And I will fly.
Like an eagle I will rise!
The spirit's breath to fill my wings.
Soaring through the firmament, my voice will swell in sweet ascent with praise unto my Lord!
I will fly!
Hold to the promise of His love.
And they lightly rise above
And gladly take Him at his word.
And I will fly!
Like an eagle I will rise!
The spirit's breath to fill my wings.
Soaring through the firmament, my voice will swell in sweet ascent with praise unto my Lord!
I will fly!
Like an eagle WE will rise!
The spirit's breath to fill OUR wings.
He makes His face to shine on us; the transformation's glorious! Resplendent in our God!
We will fly!
We will fly!
We will fly!
