Story behind the song
Gail and I met while working “Little Brothers, Friends of the Elderly” in Chicago. It is an agency that serves impoverished elders. They shared the philosophy of “flowers before bread”. This means it is not enough to share bread with the hungry. We should also bring flowers to greet them with dignity and joy.
One way we lived that creed was by taking a group on a trip out of town for a picnic.
