Story behind the song
The lyric was originally scrawled in 1976 or there abouts in Armidale NSW. It was revisited and tweaked in 2011. The themes come from Evelyn Waugh's book The Loved One as well as Terry Pratchett's Disc World series. There are 2 mixes - one by Greg Loyacano & another by Jan Olhorst. The mixes were mastered at finemastering.de
Lyrics
Thanatogenous my friend, What know you of wine and roses? My Dark Angel, fold thy wings, Talk of all that Death supposes. Brief respite from your duties, Drink with me of life and I’ll. Not ask the terminal question, Come, show your face a little while. Now, I will simply ask, let, Business come after pleasure. Just this once I‘ll clutch the moment, Though not long for such a treasure. Thanatogenous my friend, What know you of love & leaving? My Dark Angel, rest your tools, And talk of loss and of grieving. Brief respite from your duties, Drink with me of life and I’ll. Not ask the terminal question, Come, show your face a little while. Brevity is your blessing, And it is my measure. You shan’t leave unaccompanied, Just grant me this small leisure. Thanatogenous my friend, What know you of loss & mem’ries? My Dark Angel, hold your stroke, Let’s talk of men and tyrannies, I keep you from your duties, But give me a moment to. Leave my own feeble impression, My life like these last seconds flew. For the thoughts and the memories, To keep company within. Now to tarry would be folly, So let the leaving now begin. Thanatogenous my friend, What know you of my destiny? My Dark Angel, take my arm, Let’s see to this last tyranny.
