Wrote it on acoustic. I play it much differently live than I do in this version. The tempo is faster and vocals are tighter, needing to be because it's just the guitar and I.
An observation of society from the ground floor.
Broken Train
________________________
There's a train for the poor, would-be passengers snore
'cause it's never on time...
there's a man with no job, his heads in a fog
and he doesn't know why...
there's a gal at the store, no stamps to buy more
don't want her baby to cry...
there's a hungry young girl, unaware of the world
where the customers dine...
...and day in through day out, our society...
...it happens here all the time...all the time...
There's a gimpy ol' man, pigeons all that he had
somebody shot 'em in flight...
there's a skin-head who's law says it's OK to maul
anyone who ain't white...
there's a convenience store where the Korean girl's bloods not even dry...
there's a cop who's had all he take from the brawl
he's ready to cry...
...and day in through day out, our society...
...it happens here all the time...all the time...
There's a mom who would pray that her children be saved
Lord knows she has tried...
there's an innocent man, tongue-tied on the stand
he has no alibi...
there's a part of our soul with a gigantic hole
where we've already died...
there's a train for the poor and they'd all come aboard
but it never runs...&
