A bit of Indie pop, Morrissey has been mentioned (not by me!). Not quite the final mix - but the final mix didn't include my backing vocals! (And it's not on my laptop so I thought I'd post this one). A Soundroom production (many thanks to John).

It is for listeners to decide how they would describe my music when they have a chance to hear a range of material. I've only just started recording. Keep watc
I played bass in a band at Walbottle school, the T-set, with Dave Robinson from Throckley, Bri Swanson, Lemington, and Ken Wright, also Throckley, and started writing songs at this stage. I continued for a while in Dobbin with Bri and Ian Shield, also of Lemington, doing vocals and bits and pieces under Bri's direction - and did more writing. We also did a couple of them together. I then spent a few years concentrating on work and family, with some more writing in fairly recent times, until the lure of performing again (since 2005) became too much to resist! The songwriting had to go on hold for a while as I continued to work full-time until Oct 2010 whenever possible but I have written a few new songs over the last couple of years such as 'Butterflies'. See more details below and check for regular updates.

Story behind the song
Possibly the first song I ever wrote, way back. Certainly before 'Waiting'. Ok, I was 21, going on 22. Trying to express the feelings associated with making one's way in the world in all sorts of ways. Men, being very poor at talking about feelings, tend to internalise most things. I had come up with some simple chords (still the only type I can actually play!) and I took it to the Soundroom with 'Waiting' in 2006 and said to the brilliant John 'it goes something like this'. I specifically picked a couple of straightforward songs - to start with! My long-term pal Brian has played on it with me about 36 years previously. (I should still have that version but it looks like my old recorder and the tapes have disappeared into thin air). Why post it now? I've been planning it for years, it IS on another site (myspace) and I have a few tracks completed not yet on here. I just thought it was about time while I have the time this morning. So it got the vote.
Lyrics
When a boy becomes a man, it's sometimes hard to understand What he's thinking of, what he's trying to do What's on his mind, does he think of you? And when a man gets to talking, does he tell his friends of you Does he tell them (I sang 'say' on the recording!), does he say that he's in love. And when a man gets a little older, does he look into your heart? When you go away, does he say 'hurry home'? Does he tell you you're the only one? And when a man gets to loving, does he look into your eyes? Does he mean it when he says, 'Baby, I'm yours'? When a boy becomes a man, it's sometimes hard to understand What he's thinking of, what he's trying to do What's on his mind, does he think of you? And when a man gets to thinking it's maybe time to settle down, Then you know, then you know that he's in love with you.

I would agree with the reference to Morrissey. It's great the way the song lifts when the electric guitar comes in. I like the intimate, conversational style of the vocals - the kind of song that would get on many radio playlists
