This song was written on the long stretch of dark highway on the Dulles Greenway, between Dulles International Airport, and Leesburg, VA. The history on this song, is that at the time, the No Brainers were taking an 8 month break for military training, and one member had retired from the USMC. He moved to (You guessed it!) Atlanta, GA. He still currently resides there, and is playing in a band called "Money Shot". They kick major ass, so if you can get out to see them, DEFINITELY go! Tell Tony Raymer that STRIKER sentchya!
Each part of this song represents a band member. 8 months of separation for a band is critical. We didn't know what we were going to do since Tony had moved. Everyone was in training except for Sparky. So, he and I hung out as much as we could. I took a trip up to MA to hang with Jeff and Steve. I would've gone to Seattle to hang with Pom if I could've. Friends are your family. You do what you have to to make things work.
10 years later, the No Brainers are still alive and kickin'. The line up might have changed, but all of the past members are still in contact. It doesn't matter where you are or what you're doin'. On certain occasions, you might find an old member sitting in at a gig. That's BEST part of it!
Long open highway
No car but my own
No way but my way
So I travel alone
A long stretch of black
The night is my friend
---We dance together
And I never look back
---This is the end
Like a cold comet
Passing through time
fly down this highway
Destination unknown
Road life is hard
No time for family
If I play my cards right
Then I'll be where I wanna be
The stars are my guiding light
The moon's in my view
Wish I may, wish I might
Stop thinkin' about you
Those days are gone
Gone with the wind
Still I keep askin' myself
Will I see you again
---See you again
These wheels are rollin'
And so is my mind
No point in runnin'
No comfort I'll find
A long stretch of black
The night is my friend
---We dance together
And I never look back
---This is the end
This is the end...
