Two-part piece I played with my last high school band. Many-layered vocals/guitars, cool round at the end.
I wrote the lyrics to this song when I was at work one day on break. I was feeling rather disillusioned with the whole job scene and in one of those "what's it all for?" moods.
The music evolved to fit the lyrics, more or less. When we wrote as a band (our tentative name was Velvet Hammer), it was mostly jam oriented, so the chord progressions, guitar parts, and vocal harmonies came mostly from that. It was a fun song to play too...I was always so excited by the concept of a 21 beat repetition (7 bars of 3). I love stuff like that.
drowning in a sea of happiness
my sorrow knows no bounds
searching through a haze of answers
a question can't be found
i know it's there
but i don't know where
and i'm getting tired
sitting on an expanse of nothing
the silence threatens to deafen me
as i fall straight upward
gropign around for heaven
i know it's there
but i don't know where
and i'm getting tired of all this shit
the words that people frame
as if they know the answers to
the question without a name
stuck at a fork in the dead of night
completely lost but i think i might
find my way in a haze of answers
i might make something from nothing
i know it's there
but i don't know where
and i'm getting tired of all this shit
the games that people play
as if they know the answers to
the question without a name
i can't find my way home
please help me find my way home
