Rich in Misery

She appears to him each night
like an angel bathed in pale moonlight
every night he made her cry
till he told her baby blues good-bye
convincing his stubborn mind
that he did the only right thing this time
she deserved diamonds and gold
instead of poor country girl down a old dirt road
Poor little rich man
Counting them blessings
Dreaming up plans
Always keeping him guessin’
Now he stands
Alone with his memories
He’s Just a poor little rich man
Rich in misery
Well she moved out to Frisco
slingin’ them beers in a topless go-go
but one night in the stage lights
a man saw more than the usual sights
now he’s given her a brand new name
and she’s well on her way to all the fortune and fame
drops a line to him now and then
with a prayer for the future that might have been
(repeat chorus)
On a hot sleepless August night
packed up a bag and caught a red-eye flight
and as his eyes filled with lonesome tears
he realized he’d been lovin’ her all these years
took a while just to track her down
to that shabby little go-go west of town
they knew her well, but that very day.......
she ran off with a Mormon headed Utah way
(repeat chorus)
