Daniel Sebastian Stone & Maxwell Yancy Power have been making moves for years. This is one of them.
Story behind the song
“This song is straight from an argument Max & I had over our recording schedule. Unfortunately the actual argument was much less entertaining than the song.”
-Daniel
“This song blows the argument way out of proportion. Stone’s a punk for refusing to pull this from the album.”
-Max
Lyrics
Hey yo D. What it do man? How you been lately? I’ve been kind of busy, but at any rate we got to get to work & I can’t wait. Two minutes worth of illy’s what we’ll create. See I got some beats inside my noggin that’ll flow greatly, & if you can rock ‘em in a tux then you will look stately. Even though I know you have some trouble getting date ye got to look your flyest & stand up straightly. Well I’m not close to the edge; never felt like I was gonna lose my head. You see, I keep it so calm & cool allegedly you get frostbite if you try to step to me. Now let’s head down memory lane. I got a dude tellin’ me that he brings the pain, & by the time he’s done with me I’ma need a cane. This fool be sayin’ he’s the one who spit the flame. I tell the dude to snuff the fire, & that he shouldn’t be playin’ with his sister’s lighter. “You need to understand that this ain’t worth the risk, lest you want to see that flame extinguished.” Yeah see I’m kind of like Mike ‘cause they say I rock, & Max is never on time ‘cause he don’t wear a watch. So when I say “Be here by ten o’clock” ten thirty’s more likely, man that’s hogwash. He’s got no respect for all the timing that goes into to the beats over which we’re rhyming. So while I’m holed up down here refinin’, he’s schemin’ like Jafar & getting under my skin. I step to him when he finally gets here; try & let him know his tardiness just ain’t alright. He’s grinnin’ like a monkey, mind on his money, tellin’ me if I don’t ease up I’ma catch frostbite.
(I gotta say it) “Check yourself forced you wreck yourself.” Man who am I kiddin’ you’s a punk, you ain’t gonna help yourself. And all I want to see you do is just correct yourself, or start thinkin’ how you plan to best protect yourself. These words hurt my soul, I never thought he’d say those things. I’ve never felt so low, it’s almost like he clipped my wings. And now as I cling to this string I feel I gotta fling from my swing, rise up like a king, show him I can sing. Show him I’ve been listening & I’ll start contributing, & stop lying; all those things I’ve been promising.
