The title track from Gary Fights' debut album
I was talking to a (now former) girlfriend. We had been discussing me driving to her home state to visit her, and I made the comment I'll be in your arms in another 40 days, and she said "and 40 nights?". That inspired me to write the song. The lead guitar, bass, and drum machine programming were all performed by Greg Miske (who also originally engineered the track).
Been travelin' down the road
Goin' from town to town
A different city every night
No time to look around.
Every night is a different stage
and always another show.
Then to a different motel room
Where I pick up the phone.
I call you up, you say hello
I say hi it's me
You tell me that you love
Then ask me how long I'll be.
I say...
(chorus)
40 days and 40 nights
since the last time I saw your face
Lord, I can't forget your voice
I hear it everyplace
I even see you in my dreams
At night when I close my eyes
I can't get you off my mind
That I can't deny.
I can't wait to get home baby
I got so much to say.
I'm gonna be back in your arms
In another 40 nights and 40 days
Most folks think life on the road
Is all just fun and games
It's all about the lights and sound
And it's all about fortune and fame
But they don't see the lonely nights
Or the loved ones I leave behind
The lines and signs become a blur
And I can't get you off my mind
I pull up at a resturant and
I call you at home.
I drop the quarters in the slot
And then you pick up the phone
and I say...
(repeat chorus)
When this tour comes to an end
And I walk through the door
I'm gonna take you in my arms
And we'll fall right down on the floor
(repeat chorus)
