Trabue Gentry began writing music at age twelve and has since penned over 150 musical compositions.
Trabue Gentry began writing music at age twelve and has since penned over 150 musical compositions. In the 70's he teamed with friends Kevin Sterner and Dennis Neff, performing live shows in the midwest. Neff moved on to other musical ventures, and Gentry and Sterner continued composing and performing as a duo. In 1977, the two met with a major Nashville record producer, Pete Drake, and were offered a recording contract on the spot. Most unfortunately, personal issues prevented them from moving forward with the deal. Overwhelmed by the dissapointment over this lost opportunity, Gentry abandoned music and pursued other business interests. Gentry and Sterner went their separate ways. Years later Gentry and Sterner crossed paths again, resuming their friendship and rekindling their interest in music, even revisiting the possibilities of releasing some of those songs the Nashville producer was convinced had great promise. Today Gentry is working on several musical projects, new and old. Realizing he can't rely on others to make things happen, he's pulled some of those lost treasures off the shelf for a revisit and began composing new. Other musicians have since demonstrated great interest in working on some of these previously unreleased tunes. Gentry is now working on several creative musical collaborations and is crafting the World Music Project, a cross-continental project with promising new artists.

Story behind the song
Written and recorded in 1980, this was an experimental "concept" song. The singer is walking up the side walk on a rainy day as he hears his telephone ring. By the time he gets inside to answer the phone, the girl that he loves has left an obviously distressed message and has hung up. He feel ambivalent about missing the call. He knows why she wants to talk to him but he doesn't want to deal with the situation that he knows she will present. Rather, he picks up his guitar and begins to play a melancholy tune. This is where the song becomes surreal. The tune he is playing on the guitar glides into a studio song that describes the tremendous emotional pain he feels after he has discovered that she has been with his friend. Despite his deep hurt, he still loves and forgives her but, still, he wants to know why. This song was inspired by a real life situation.
Lyrics
I could follow you If you should want me to I'd go where you go If you will let me know Now that we've come to the end of the road Still I love you Now that we've seen all there is to be seen Still I love you I love you more than you'll know I needed you more than could show Yes I love you girl I'll love you for all of my life You know that I need you You know that I want you Now that we know all there is to be known Still I love you Now that we've cried all the tears we can cry Still I love you I love you more than you'll know I needed you more than could show Yes I love you girl I'll love you for all of my life You know that I need you You know that I want you Why did you have to go with him? Now why did you have to be with him? Now why? Tell me why Tell me why Tell me why Tell me why Tell me why
