No hype. No bullshit. (Well, SOME bullshit, but no hype): Words and music by Jim Parker.
I've been called a lot of things since I first climbed onto a stage with a guitar in my hands and butterflies in my stomach, but the one word that seems to fit best (and miss the mark least) is this one: songwriter. In fact, that's the one I use to describe myself as a performer, too -- especially after I hit a sour note in a vocal or blow a guitar lick, or otherwise need to extricate my ego from my performance in front of an audience. Whenever that happens, I just shrug it off as best I can, and remind anyone who needs reminding of the truest musical fact about me that I know: "I'm not a musician. I'm a songwriter."

Story behind the song
Don't strike me dead, Lawd, no, no. It's just me, Jimi Dee!
Lyrics
we're just waiting, waiting for the promised land. said we're waiting, waiting for the promised land. preacher man, he said to me: when you be dead, then you'll be free. jesus died to turn the key, open sh** up for you and me. now we're waiting, waiting for the promised land. said we're waiting, waiting for the promised land. i said god, why must it be true, bad muthafukkas so cold to you? they smile in your eyes and pat your back, then leave you with a heart attack. are they waiting, waiting for the promised land? they must be waiting, waiting for the promised land. god said, jim you know damn well, bad muthafukka's go straight to hell. but there ain't no fire, and there ain't no flame. they just disappear in their own shame. they shouldn't have waited, waiting for the promised land. they wasted it waiting, waiting for the promised land. now i believe in god, and i believe you. i believe that what you believe comes true. so i try to keep my disappointments light; i gots to keep my spirit bright. cause i ain't waiting, waiting for the promised land. no more waiting, waiting for the promised land.
