mikelewismusic consists of Mike Lewis, a singer-songwriter from San Diego, California, USA. Mike plays all original material on his Gibson Hummingbird.
Mike Lewis is a songwriter hailing from San Diego, CA. Mike is a veteran of the San Diego music scene and has embarked on a solo acoustic endeavor called mikelewismusic. Mike eschews production values. Mike eschews commercialism in music. Mike believes that music should be shared at the grass-roots level, which is why he likes the internet - the opportunities for the independent artist has never been better. Mike believes the heart of his music lies in the song itself. Mike's strong-suit is in the songs that he writes, and mikelewismusic's charter is to showcase Mike's songs. Armed with his trusty Gibson Hummingbird, Mike writes and plays all original material. Mike provides a slice of the human experience from his own viewpoint. Joy, exuberance, love, loss, sadness, and humor are all examined from a unique, heartfelt point of view as only Mike can deliver. A limited viewpoint? Perhaps. But maybe, just maybe, you might be able to see a little bit of yourself through the fuzzy lenses that clouds Mike's observations.

Story behind the song
In 2003, my band CenterAisle played at a Sweet-16 birthday party for a young lady named Christine. The boyfriend of the birthday girl was a young man named James. A couple of weeks later, James was tragically killed by a hit-and-run driver. As fate would have it, Christine and James would dance their last dance at this Sweet 16 party. These events affected me pretty profoundly. My role in this whole thing was just as an observer, but I was affected and it inspired me to write this song. I wondered about the pain that Christine was going through, and this is my feeble attempt to crystallize those feelings. Song Written by Michael D. Lewis Copyright 2005 Michael D. Lewis
Lyrics
Your road was paved so golden The sun would shine on you emboldened I hear your laughter I hear your laughter That glint within your eye Opened doors where good things lie I hear your laughter I hear your laughter Just like that you were gone And I know all things must pass The Summer turned so cold, so quick And I hold this empty glass You never let the forces belt you With the cards that life had dealt you I hear your laughter I hear your laughter And all your words are now my rock But I can't turn back the clock I hear your laughter I hear your laughter Just like that you were gone And I know all things must pass The Summer turned so cold, so quick And I hold this empty glass Waking up is so demanding I am left alone and standing I hear your laughter I hear your laughter Cut down in your prime We just ran out of time I hear your laughter I hear your laughter Just like that you were gone And I know all things must pass The Summer turned so cold, so quick And I hold this empty glass
