Story behind the song
It's about the Dull Towns of England. Most of them are in the Midlands because that's where Richard, who wrote it, grew up.
Lyrics
I've been to Leicester it’s the home of ‘BensonShoe’- I’ve been to Redditch and there’s nothing there to do. I’ve been to Morecambe felt the overpowering gloom! And oh, if Corby were the bride, the Devil would be groom. I have seen the dull towns of England! I’ve been to Solihull the dull place I was raised I’ve been to Dartford just to see the different greys I’ve been to Worcester and I got more stares than smiles! Oh, I’ve been to Coventry the same old brick for miles I have seen the dull towns of England!
