Pronounced ev-e-line (not ev-e-lynn), this song is inspired by a James Joyce story of the same name. Musically it's sort of a cross between "Half the World Away" by Oasis, and "April's Complaint" by Mike Garrigan.
harmony acoustic rock bri
Simple acoustic progressions teamed with catchy yet poetic lyrics, with an emphasis on vocals.
i'm just a guy recording songs, not much more to it than that right now.

Story behind the song
I love the way Mike G. translates the works of Joyce into music. This is my humble attempt.
Lyrics
She's looking out the window now, Dreaming onto the street; Finding comfort in the curtain dust, She's remembering the way it all should be. This life is a joke filled with our smoke; Childhood is gone, we have to be strong; Yeah, you can't stand your dad and you're mother is dead The organ is broke, the Aire made it choke; Eveline, We're gonna be fine, Just take my hand and let me be you're man; We'll take to the sea and sail to Buenos Ayres, Between you and me That's the way it should be; She's thinking about her family now And who's gonna give a damn; The white of two letters is there Blinding her heart with the stress of her plan; Her life is a mess, she's always depressed The stories were wrong, and so were the songs She could have the romance if she'd just take the chance Move to the West, leave all the rest; Eveline, you're wasting our time, You have to let go of the things that you know; You're caught in a web built by the Dead, There's no reason to stay, I'll lead the way; The ship is looking black in the night, she's holding onto the rail; Her lips pray for direction now, Her face is growing pale; The seas of the world are starting to swirl, They're drowning her heart, they'll tear her apart, The Dublin she loathes won't let her go, She's just a girl, fighting the world; Eveline, I won't leave you behind, Come with me now, don't get lost in the crowd; After tonight it will all be alright, It's not too late, To make our escape, Eveline, I'm waving goodbye, You can't understand that you're drowning on land; There's no love in your eyes, I'm out of your mind, You can regret, But I won't forget...
