Murry The Wheel , the long running saga of Connecticut's guitar maniac.
Band/artist history
MTW is composed of a bunch of hard-working individuals who, between us since the mid 80's cover all the gigs on the tour that never ends..here they are: On Lead Guitar & Vocals - Tim! (Aka Murry The Wheel) Murry founded the band way back in 1982...in 1989 he released the album ROCKET EYES and went on to open for such acts as the Johnny Winter and the Good Rats. Murrys influences include Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters , Robert Johnson as well as Hendrix, Clapton and Robin Trower. In addition the full band Murry fronts an all blues version of the Wheel. In 2001 he released the Cd BELLY FULL OF BLUES and in 2002 BLACK CAT TALE and LIVE IN WEST HAVEN. Gigging constantly, Tim has a well earned rep as the one of the hardest working musicians in CT. and is well known for his dynamic style of playing. On Drums & Vocals - Greg! From Redding CT, Greg joined the band way back in 1989 and played about a thousand gigs on a beat-up old Ludwig kit that was built before he was born (a couple of summers ago he finally broke down and bought a new set). When he isnt gigging with the band, Greg is an avid accoustic player who writes and produces his own songs. Greg produced the bands new album LIVE IN WEST HAVEN, which came out on August 31st 2002. On Bass & Vocals - Pete! Pete joined the band in 1995 after playing in a bunch of local bands in Norwalk Ct. and Amherst Mass. When not gigging with the Wheel, Pete played in THE ANTIDOTE, helped found the popular CT. WHO tribute band ODDS AND SODS, as well as the local metal bands WARHEAD and GYPSY SIN. Pete's hobbies include blowing house fuses, frying speakers, breaking basses and getting them fixed on warranty. Pete's musical influences include Rush, The Who , Rolling Rock and Goldschlager. We hes not gigging with the the Wheel, Pete can be found at the Red Arrow in Milford with THE FREDDY WATT PROJECT. On Bass & Vocals - Bob!! Bob is the original bass player of Murry The Wheel, he played bass on the first album ROCKET EYES as well as on the new releases BELLYFULL OF BLUES and BLACK CAT TALE. Bob is known for his great ability to blend the styles of funk and blues on the bass. On Drums - Ed! Originally from Newtown Ct., Ed is also one of the original alumni of the Murry the Wheel band as well as playing drums in CUT LOOSE which became the well known CT. band FUTURE TENSE. Ed has also played which such notables as Billy Idol, Leslie West and Jose Feliciano. When he isn't gigging with Murry, Ed is one half of the fee-form jazz duo, THE OTHER PEOPLE. Ed plays drums on the 2001 releases BELLYFULL OF BLUES and BLACK CAT TALE.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yes, all over Southern Connecticut if theres a diive on the corner and theve got bands , we've probably played it. Of course we like it or we wouldnt be doing it..except for Murry..he's been playing too long to do anything else.
Your musical influences
Murry gets a lot of his style from Hendrix , also Robin Trower as well as the blues greats like John Hooker and Robert Johnson Greg plays in a lot of styles but is at his best playing flat out rock and roll. (or 80's stuff like XTC and The Jam) Also known as the human jukebox , Pete came from a metal backround and still likes bands like Rush, Sabbath and the Who, but in recent years (decades) he finally picked up a feel for the blues. Bob the masater of funk and the walking bass line- it shows on the Bellyful of Blues recordings. After years of playing big drums on big stages , Ed has settled into a jazzy groove on a small kit..look out when he does his olos though he can make that small kit shake the rafters!
What equipment do you use?
Murry plays a fender Strat through a Fender Deville with assoredted effects. His accoustic is an Ovation. Greg Plays Pearl drums or a beat up old set of Ludwigs- depending on the size of the room Pete plays a Czech Spectre through Hartke Head and cabinets..his back up bass is a Rickebacker 4002, his accoustic is a Yamaha Bob Plays a Fender Precison bass through an Ampeg head and cabinet Ed plays Gretsch drums
