The world of the underground starts here. Be a part of history as MPA changes the face of music forever. Throw down your predetermined ideals of music, and open you mind to the creative fusion of underground raw hiphop and hard progressive techno.Band/artist history
MPA: masters of public announcement was created in 1998 by Dan Lee, Brandon MacKenzie, and Evan Rawson. In their hometown of Claremont, NH, the three set up a studio in a friend’s loft of a garage, 4 songs emerged into their first demo. The group knew that they were onto something revolutionary to the world of hip-hop. When studio work commenced, DJ Trypt (Evan Rawson) began experimenting with new digital recording techniques and software. In combination of old skool sampling technique, the sound was unique to the world. The group was heavily influenced by Wu-Tang Clan, NAS, Mobb Deep, and mostly underground bands.
After a few performances in the year of 2000, MPA’s first and last fall out occurred. With pressures of girlfriend’s, cars, college, and social aspects, the group decides it would be best to separate paths. MPA parted ways, as each member went off to college of that year.
Between 2000 and 2003 each member continued on with their music. L-Dub (Dan Lee) stuck with freestyling, and began to dabble in the world of digital recording technology and communications. Cypha (Brandon MacKenzie) stayed in close contact with L-Dub, as they moved to Boston together. While Trypt moved to New York, Cypha and L-Dub continued to write lyrics and brainstorm ideas for an up and coming album. Trypt propelled onto new professional heights, when he landed a job for Digital Recordings, Wu-Tang Clans record label. He had opportunities to work and co produce with such artists as the RZA, Buddha Monk, ODB, and the Division.
L-Dub and Cypha began work on MPA’s first album, music Trypt. After many failed attempts at producing and recording themselves, they realized MPA just wasn’t the same style and quality with out Trypt on board. Without the chemistry of Trypt’s ear and production techniques, Cypha’s ability to write ill-faded rhymes, and L-Dub’s high energy freestyles, MPA is like the hip without the hop.
In the summer of 2003, DJ Trypt moved back to MPA’s hometown. After a few weeks home, he ran into Cypha at a local video store. Within 15 minutes the three reunited to form MPA once again. The next day work began on building Chamber Studios, in Claremont NH. Throughout the summer of 2003, the three completed there self titled LP, consisting of 5 unique tracks originally composed, recorded, and produced.Have you performed in front of an audience?Live shows are where we display our greatest passion for our one love of music and hiphop
