The whole concept of the band was born sometime in late 1998 or early 1999. Originally, it was to be a black or death metal group. The original lineup was to include Brian Leach on guitar, Jeff Topnick on guitar, Jason Stiles on drums or keyboard, and Zack Harrington on bass and/or vocals. Soon after, David Strano of (at the time) Dawn of Darkness666 was invited to join the then nameless band, but declined due to his involvement with D.O.D. This lineup held for approximately one year.
In this time, Jason Stiles came up with what would be his final and most significant contribution to Monarchs of Hate - its name. Around this same time, David's band Dawn of Darkness broke up and he was again available to play for MoH. The band needed him most on bass, but since he had no ability or desire to play bass, he turned the invitation down for the second time.
Soon after the Jesus's declination of MoH's invitation to play bass, there was a split between Jeff and the rest of the band, due to various personal differences, and there was a long period of time that lacked communication. Finally, after realizing a need for a new guitarist, David Strano joined the lineup for the final and definite time. (Third time's the charm!) Eventually, the hatchet was buried between Jeff and the remaining members of the band and he once again joined the lineup. The final lineup revision came when it was realized that Jason Stiles was showing no real motivation or talent in the group, so he was removed on good terms. This placed the following people in the following positions:
David "Jesus" Strano - lead guitar
Brian Leach - rhythm guitar
Jeff Topnick - bass guitar
Zack "Meat" Harrington - drums and percussion
Now in their sixth year, Monarchs of Hate are growing musically every day. Constant work is being done to perfect the style of this band's direction. They show no signs of stopping and they soon shall claim the title they have always wanted - "Kings of Metal!"Have you performed in front of an audience?We currently do not play live because of: a. lack of singer and, b. lack of better equipment. We are working on that though.
