ModifiedBlockStyle is a live hip hop band out of Utica, NY. Using instruments instead of two turntables, MBS puts on an original live show experience. Combining elements of early hip hop with their own unique sound, ModifiedBlockStyle has been turning the heads of audiences throughout central New York.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
MBS formed in the summer of 2001. All four members bring a wealth of musical knowledge to the table. Lyrical E, the emcee of MBS has been on the mic since 93 and has been in several other hip hop groups. Nate B.(Keys) has been behind the production side of many Hip Hop projects since the mid 90's. A wiz on the keys, Nate holds most of the music melodies for MBS. Greg J.(Bass) was the final piece to MBS, and adds a jazzy flavor to the band with his skills on the bass. Finally, Shawn O'T. keeps the pace on the drums. Originally a guitar player for MBS shawn has made the transition to drums very well. MBS will hit the stage in a town near you soon.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Yes, throughout Utica and the Central New York area and also in Syracuse, NY. The live stage is where MBS leaves its mark.

The Roots, De La Soul, Prince Paul, Everlast, Rakim, Krs-One, Jurassic 5, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Dilated Peoples, and anyone else keeping real Hip Hop alive.
